Welcome to Disaster Mental Health Professionals Online! The original DisastMH Email Forum was started in 1996 by Dr. Denruth Lougeay and was cutting edge at the time. Operations in the pioneer years were through St. John's and then later through ICORS. Disaster Mental Health (DMH) is a developing area of disaster psychology which encompasses the delivery of mental health services before, during, and after disasters, i.e. disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster recovery. This discussion group is solely intended to serve as a ongoing professional discussion for mental health professionals or invited associates who serve in the field of disaster psychology. Thus, to join the list, you must be either a licensed mental health professional or a graduate student in training for licensure as a mental health professional and have an interest in providing psychological first aid (and related interventions) after disasters. To obtain an application, enter your email address in the field below. You will be sent an application which must be completed and returned by email to the listserv moderators at dmhp_listserv_moderators@traumacentral.net. Upon approval of your application, list membership will be granted. Please also note: During the aftermath of a major disaster, the list moderators may be very delayed in processing applications. Individuals needing professional assistance are asked to seek mental health professionals in their own geographic area. |
